Schofields Road – Stage 3 Watermain
BMD Constructions were awarded the contract by Roads and Maritime Services. The project scope includes a 2.5 kilometre upgrade to extend Schofields road to four lanes from Veron Road, across Eastern Creek to Richmond Road, with the capacity to widen to six lanes in the future.
The project also features 600 metres of new twin bridges across Eastern Creek and Bells Creek, the installation of new traffic lights at Carnarvon Road and at a future Fermoy Road extension intersection.
Pedestrians, cyclists and commuters also benefit with off road shared paths to be built on both sides of the road to increase safety, and bus bays and bus priority lanes at major intersections to improve traffic flow.
Schofields Road provides a major east-west connection between Windsor Road and Richmond Road. The project ensures the future transport needs of the North West Growth Centre are met, linking the Rouse Hill and Marsden Park town centres.
The scope of works included

- 2500m of DN100mm, DN150mm, DN200mm and DN250mm potable watermain
- Two 600mm diameter thrust bore creek crossing
- One 375mm diameter thrust bore creek crossing

The complexities of the job included working around live traffic, traffic switches, pedestrian management, working in and around high voltage electricity, high pressure gas and fibre optic cables, excavating and shoring the boring and receive shafts up to 10m deep in rock, auger boring under the creeks in hard rock and environmental controls in the creek areas
